May 2014
Welcome to theWinnipeg, a chapter of Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship in Canada
We have been busy putting together a breakfast meeting for Saturday, May 24th at the Canad Inns Windsor Park, 1034 Elizabeth Road, Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

Behind those smiling eyes is one incredibly funny Newfie!
Jason Foster will be sharing his testimony Jason was raised in Green Bay, Newfoundland. He met his wife Sylvia when he as 17. She lived an hour and a half away by road – closer if you went by boat!
Jason knows what it means to encounter God, and you will understand more about this too. He is learning what it means to abound and to be abased!
See you Saturday morning.
We are keeping our eyes and our hearts open as we consider having an evening banquet. Fall or late summer? End of the school year? What seems good to you?
Also, we would like to get the monthly prayer meetings going again. We want to be joined by people who are often surprised by God. Is that YOU?
Last year, Mark had some good and powerful meetings in his home, but it was just open to members. Several years before, I remember some powerful and moving meetings at Terry and Linda Smith’s house. I would get there early, and Terry would share some of the things he had been reading about. It always seemed that from these discussions, my heart was super prepared and overflowing. The spontaneous worship and prayer would follow. There was enthusiastic singing of more than a few hymns and spiritual songs, and in the midst we would share scriptures and prayer requests. And we knew God was there.
I hope we can recreate this atmosphere!
Speaker’s and Musician’s Guidelines
I found a brochure recently, entitled “Thank You! Speaker’s and Musician’s Guidelines. I transcribed it and uploaded it. It is copied on a page on the PAGES menu to the left. There is also a place, at the end of the transcribed text, to click to download a pdf version.
If you are chosen to speak to the chapter, I strongly suggest you read the guidelines.

Changed ABOUT page
We have made a change to the ABOUT page. Many years ago, Demos Shakarian spoke about the Vision he received from God when he was ready to give up on the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International. At that time, the fellowship was turning one year old and the meagre level of support was draining away; but God was encountering more than just Demos to share His vision for FGBMFI.
The Main Event – a new top menu
We have added a new top menu on our page. This will enable us to more thoroughly integrate the website and the emailed notices.
When you get your email notice of the next meeting, there will be a link to take you to The Main Event page, which will have the time, date and place of the next meeting, as well as any info about the speaker.
Is it Time to Restart?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is 2000 years old. It is a solid ship and the message has not changed over the years, has it?
Well, yes, the church has changed the message over time, and elements have been missed. Elements which are plain to all who will study scripture. For instance, for most of those years, what is known as the western church has espoused a replacement theology, where it is taught that the Church replaced the nation of Israel in God’s redemptive plan. A careful reading of Romans chapter 11 shows that we need to be cautious of this doctrine. The church in Asia does not hold to this doctrine. The eastern orthodox church does not hold to this doctrine. So this is an example of how the message has changed, not because it was the true message, but because it was a doctrine of men.
Another example of a changed doctrine is that it is the clergy that is responsible for leading men to Christ. Now there has always been a leadership that we might class “professional” in that they were supported by the church for their leadership, for their role in teaching the church. And there has always been a “laity,” people who were not supported financially by the church. And there are always those in between! But Paul also makes it clear that every one in the church has a ministry – evangelists, teachers, preachers, helpers, administrators and so on can all be lay people! They can all be anointed for service by the local church. And they can all have the gifts of the Holy Spirit to do those ministries.
That is where FGBMFI comes in. We help men (and women) to do the work of the Gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. We help men to be alive to God, working with God, loving God and seeking His glory, not our own.
It has been observed that the upcoming generation is one that does not commit easily. They just don’t understand organizations. So it is incumbent on the FGBMFI to reach them. To show them how to receive the power of God in their lives. To train them to witness in the power of the Holy Spirit, showing his love, and seeking His glory.
So we need to rethink the emphasis on a monthly outreach meeting, and maybe get back to special banquets to win men and see them baptized in the Spirit, with special training seminars to show men how to work in the power of the Spirit. We had training sessions with Mac Dumcum previously, we have had Gord Williams speak to us in previous years, and we have had special banquets in the past. So monthly fellowship meetings are okay, but they do not do the work of the chapter by themselves.
So maybe it is time to rethink – and restart.
January Newsletter…Coming Soon!
When we transferred editorship of thewinnipeg.ca and moved to a different host, for some reason most all the blog posts disappeared. All the Menistry Focus newsletters from 2012 were linked on the newsletter page, but the newsletters from 2013, THEWinnipeg, were not listed. The newsletters are available on the site and will be included. We already have the newsletters from January and February 2013 available.
